Out of the Silence, Erle Cox's first imaginative novel, was written over a long period during the years between 1913 and 1918. It appeared as a serial in The Argus in 1919, and was published in book form in 1924, having had a steady sale ever since. It is referred to as the first major Australian SF novel.
