Beginning with the 10th Grade, Walter Jenkins gave his son Tommy and his best friend Danny one fantastic summer adventure, an opportunity to make a photo journal of ghost towns in California and Nevada. And then again in the 11th and 12th grades he surprised them by asking their teacher, Mrs. Hopkins, if she would again assign more "extra credit." After visiting places they never before saw, the boys were eager for discovering new places to enhance their photography hobby. Luckily for both Danny and Tommy, Danny's dad worked as a freelance writer; which allowed him plenty of time to take them on our field trips. After high school, Tommy and Danny both decided to attend Sacramento State, and naturally they both majored in photography; wanting to take their hobby to the professional level. Then Tommy's new mother surprised all three of them when she suggested one more photo journal, this time they we visiting and photographing the churches in southern Italy. Those little known churches, she would tell them; hold mysteries and beauty that few Americans have seen. Walter got the "Team" together: his new wife Sandy, his two new daughters Wendy and Suzy, his son Danny and his son's best friend Tommy, and surprise of all surprises... Carl, Tommy's dad. So with passports ready....off they went to visit southern Italy and to create the final chapter of their family's summer school assignments. To that end, I give you ...Our Summer School Adventures.
