Our Highest Calling
Make disciples of all nations as you are going, baptizing, and teaching. -Matthew 28:19-20
The Great Commission is a way of life. It is something to be carried out as one is going about. It is not a one-time evangelistic event. It is a call to make disciples as we live out our lives.
In our modern-day, Christians have fallen prey to the trends of the world, including idolizing busyness and individualism, which are counter to the love that God called us to share and the community we are to be. The center of focus of the Early Church was love toward God and others, which fulfilled the Greatest Commandment.
Our Highest Calling is about how to live out that life, and it is through discipleship that we can make disciples in our lives. Discipleship is a practice of love with other close-knit Christian brothers and sisters over time. It is about being available for one another and pursuing God-given callings together for the kingdom of God. As Christians grow in discipleship and form deep relationships, they will, in turn, make disciples who genuinely love God. They can then walk together and make even more disciples, just as Jesus and His disciples did throughout their lives.
