Oruru and Ikpakpa: A Story About an Ant and a Grasshopper is one of the stories recommended by the Ministry of Education for Basic 3 to Basic 5 (Primary 3 to Primary 5). It is in 2021-2024 Approved Booklist of Bayelsa State Ministry of Education for Primary Schools in Nigeria.
Bosom friends, Oruru and Ikpakpa, were forewarned in the dream about a natural disaster that was about to befall Egberiama. They agreed on what to do in order to escape from the calamity but Ikpakpa (Grasshopper) suddenly changed his mind because of his interminable desire to play all day.
Oruru prepared for the unknown by gathering for into the hole of a tall tree but Ikpakpa refused to prepare. While Ikpakpa was playing on the field, Oruru gathered food into the hole of the tree. When the calamity befall Egberiama, Ikpakpa became of victim while Oruru escaped.
Oruru and Ikpakpa: A Story about an Ant and a Grasshopper is written for children. The story is used to inspire our children to work hard even though they are expected to play.
