An introduction to concepts of logic for home philosophers.

The existence of God has perplexed mankind since creation. Men of philosophy and logic have studied it since the days of Plato and Aristotle; in fact, Aristotle provided some of the earliest writings on the subject of metaphysics and theology. This short book provides a modest introduction for those interested in the analysis of the subject in three ways: by logical reason, by logical belief, and by holy scripture.

It begins with a short introduction to many of the great writers who have participated in a long discussion of the subject for millennia, starting with Moses, then on to Plato, Aristotle, Saint Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, Francis Bacon, Isaac Newton, John Locke, and many others. Their abstract ideas, such as time, eternity, infinity, and other scientific concepts are used to develop the notion of God, eternity, and the existence of the soul and its immortality.

The treatment of logical reason begins with a theoretical construction in the same way science uses the same method to infer the existence of objects which are not directly observable, such as black holes and subatomic particles. Proceeding from this starting point, it develops a definition of God to be examined, and then compares this definition to the existence of time and motion in the fantastic cosmos; from the tiniest subatomic elements to the unthinkably fast reaches of space. Using definitions of logic, the reader is guided through an abridged discussion of God as a unique, singularity object of thought that is both like and unlike the human sense of real existence, and the cosmos is considered as possibly only one of many universes that might ever have existed or perhaps will exist in the future.

Following the examination of God's existence by reason is a blending of sacred concepts of God. It considers an enriched concept of God with notions of the soul and its immortality. The concept of God is augmented with the senses of omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence that may be analogous to the energy of His world that cannot be created nor destroyed.

Building on the enriched concepts of a God of tradition and faith, the ideas of God from the Holy Bible are reviewed. Theological philosophy truly begins with studies of the Holy Bible and its description of God's history of interaction with the human soul. It concludes with a short discussion of Jesus Christ as provided by the Bible.

This short volume makes a great introduction to the three lines of study of the existence of God that will stimulate each reader's thoughts. It may be enough for some, or it may encourage others to read many of the works which are described.
