About the novel:

The year is 1983, the height of the Cold War, and an evil secret society has planted an imposter in the White House with one objective: nuclear war. When Steven Leonard, a wannabe journalist, stirs the world's most dangerous secret agent out of retirement - the alluring and provocative Hunter Gunne (think a female James Bond minus the misogyny) - he finds himself dragged along on an adventure to rescue the president, prevent World War III, and perhaps find the happiness both their lives so desperately lack. If they fail: kiss humanity goodbye.

O.L.D. - A Good Way to Die is a retro action-adventure that spans decades, sweeping the reader from the Arctic Circle to the Oval Office... AND BEYOND. Twisting the spirit of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan series with the dark humor of Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove, the novel interweaves the history of the Cold War (from the Manhattan Project to Able Archer) with the heroine's past, highlighting the horror and absurdity of the nuclear arms race.

Reality Check:

Humanity is as threatened by nuclear weapons today as it was at the height of the Cold War. As of 2020, there are nearly 14,000 nuclear weapons across the globe, 90% of which belong to the United States and Russia. Currently, the United States has about 4000 nuclear weapons in its arsenal with 2000 in reserve. 1500 of these are presently deployed and ready for launch. And of those, 1000 are kept loaded and within range of their targets at all times. The President of the United States has sole authority to launch these nuclear weapons, imposter or not. So why do all these weapons still exist, waiting to be used? Because the Cold War never ended. It simply lost its notoriety.

That is why the author felt the need to write this novel. Nuclear weapons - and the existential threat they pose to all of humanity - are nothing to be taken lightly. He is hopeful that this book - and the daring adventures of Hunter Gunne, Agent of O.L.D. - will inspire you to stand up against such devastating weapons, thus protecting humankind against the ultimate catastrophe: nuclear war.
