In J.R.Euen's account of life on board an offshore oi rig, the readers find themselves in another world. In the offshore oil industry's constant search for the black liquid gold that drives industry in the developed world, giant offshore oil-rigs are moved to new locations to drill for oil in the deep waters on the ocean floors thousand of feet below the surface, in an effort to extract the black gold that fuels industry in the developed world. Rory MacTavish finds himself in a world of Tool Pushers, Drillers, Roughnecks and Roustabouts, when he is called upon to approve giant oil rig moves to new locations to extract oil and natural gas from the seabed for refining and marketing. In most cases the platforms or oil rigs contained facilities to house the workforce on board. He travels to Las Palmas to meet the principal surveyor from their New Orleans office, Clive Mullen, a self-styled expert on offshore oil rigs, who is over there to approve a rig move to Galveston, Texas, USA, for its annual drydocking and refit, when his Head Office in London decide to train him for oil rig moves in the future.
