Not My Crew

Carlos Anthony's second novel, Not My Crew, offers a critique of the contemporary Canadian Black experience, laying bare the challenges and obstacles young Black men face.

In a suburban Toronto high school, fifteen-year-old Romero has to navigate the politics of a school divided between rival gangs the Bloods and Crips. Things get ugly between the gangs at basketball games and in the school halls, with Romero getting caught up in the dangerous world of casual gun violence. Both factions try to pull Romero in, threatening dire consequences if he doesn't pick the right side.

Not My Crew highlights the almost impossible conflicts and dilemmas young Black men in Canada sometimes face.
