After hitting rock bottom, Thais De Bois is struggling to put her life back in order. During this time, she has to fulfill a corvee of forced labour for the ruling nobility of the Belle Province. Instead of the usual manual or clerical labour, the St. Andre family tasks her with gathering a sample of the fabled Blue Arctic roses, this being the only stipulation for winning the hand of Marc-Jose, the heir of the St. Andre chevaliers. Thais has no choice in the matter, since her future success is dependent on their goodwill. Marc-Jose has no choice but to accept this if he wants to be free from the constraints of his class. So Thais goes into the dangerous north. Dangerous not just because of the elements, but also due to the Queen that rules that land, making her task doubly difficult. Two fates are to be decided.
