It is 1935 and Dakota has made a decision about his life. Little does he know that, although things may not go as planned, he is about to experience something that will change him forever. It is the depths of the Great Depression and, while Stephen will come close to disaster in a way that will test his marriage to Amelia, in the small mountain town of Dooley, Georgia, Marshal Max Roundy will come face to face with a long-dead memory. It will once again test his integrity, and Carrie will begin to decide on her own future with him.
