This study of Nietzsche's ideas interweaves the relevant actions in his life to present a philosophical biography. The major premise of the work is that only such an historical presentation can lead to an understanding of the person Nietzsche who was a philosopher. Nietzsche's published works are analyzed chronologically and his unpublished notes, letters, and secondary materials are used to shed light on his life and works.
