Beskrivelse
This volume concerns itself with cultural relations between the German-speaking area and the Netherlands between 1600 and 1830. The volume focuses in particular on the alterity discourse in each culture's perception of itself and the other culture, interactions in literature and in the literary business, the transfer of knowledge and ideas in cultural areas and translations as agencies of cultural convergences and divergences. These topics are examined against the background of a broad research spectrum, encompassing literary, philosophical, theological, political, educational and psychological texts. The authors are not only interested in the circulation of ideas between the two language areas, but also examine the infrastructure of cultural mediation and the intellectual relations between scholars in both cultures. Their research constitutes a continuation of analyses approaches taken over the past decades, at the same time opening up new methodological and interdisciplinary areas of focus and perspectives.
