Beskrivelse
Has philosophy always intrigued and fascinated you but also frightened you because of the complexity of its content and the philosophers' abstruse language? Or have you studied it at school without understanding it much and perhaps in an uninspiring way? This book is designed for those approaching philosophy for the first time and wanting to understand and love it without too much effort and in an enjoyable way.
My First Socrates (and the pre-Socratics), the first issue of the Great Philosophers series, will take you on a fascinating journey to discover the beginnings of Western philosophy. We will introduce the pre-Socratic philosophers, from the Ionian to the Eleatic schools. We will see who was the first philosopher to speak about being, we will present Zeno's paradoxes, Heraclitus' thought and the sophists Protagoras and Gorgias. Some pages will also be devoted to Greek tragedy and its three most illustrious playwrights, Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides. Socrates, the philosopher who let himself die for the truth, will obviously be given ample space. We will conclude with the schools of thought that arose after Socrates' death.
