My Dream Became a Nightmare

I first realized that violence can happen inside my home when I saw my mom on my bed, bleeding and sobbing. What I was not able to realize is that my father has been beating my mom for a year. You may think that I should have known that it was happening right in our home. But like many people out there, I was not able to see it at first. The moment that I realized that something wrong is happening in my family, I felt that we were powerless. Now that we are able to start anew with our lives, I know now that right knowledge and perspective about domestic abuse will allow me to help people to realize that no one should have to suffer under the hands of the people they love. This book is made for everyone out there that has the same fate - one in four women that you will meet will suffer abuse in her lifetime. This is a statistic that the world should not tolerate. For this reason, this book is created to inform people what domestic abuse really is, how it is perpetuated within intimate relationships, how it can be stopped, and how people can truly move on from the hurt that it may have caused. Domestic violence is something that should not be kept behind closed doors. Remember that domestic abuse does not always end with the victim escaping the abuser. For this reason, it is important that we arm everyone that we know with the knowledge that they needed to empower themselves and others.
