Latest estimations say that up to 20% of children in the world and 3 to 5% of adults suffer from Atopic Dermatitis, commonly known as Eczema. A skin condtion with tremendous impact on life quality of babies, families and adults that suffer from this chronic, inflammatory disease with no clear cause and a multitude of treatments. Topical Steroids have been prescribed for decades to locally lowered the skin response, limiting the sympthoms and apprentely curing the eczema, however in the last 10 years more and more patients moved away from the steroids approached to eczema, with courage and bravery they went into the so called TSW state (topical steroids withdraw) a worsening of the general eczema symptoms due to the suspension of the topical drugs and ointments. Suffering but believing and embracing new treatments, a holistic approach to eczema and generally to their health.
A brutal, devastating Eczema and TSW in 2009 was trapping Riccardo in a hopeless situation: the once unstoppable traveller who used to backpack in Tibet was now blocked, covered in gauze from head to toe. Doctors were prescribing even more steroids and from the bed of an italian hospital everything seemed lost.
Suddenly, Chance opened a new opportunity to him. Something unimaginable and so desperate that had almost no chance of success: moving to South Korea for traditional oriental medicine. In despair, almost incapacitated to move Riccardo decided to took that flight to Seoul, putting everything at risk: with a severe, chronic condition, he was leaving the confort of Western medicine for the unknown. That flight took him to a complete recover from the Eczema and TSW and moreover to a new level of knowledge of this condition and similar others.
A world wide trip stretching from the East to South America and Europe, but also an indeep travel into the psychology of a sick person, a mind game and a roller-coaster ride between hopes,, itchy nights, Austrian Witches, Swiss Tropical Birds and... another flight to catch!
Not a treatment manual of eczema but a life journey through many methods , trials and treatment around the world, to give hope and a solid base to new sufferer, families but also caregivers that really want to understand what an eczema life is.
