At age five, Jennifer was sent to live with her grandparents in Rock Hall, Jamaica, after her mother ended an abusive relationship with her father. Jennifer began to thrive in the close-knit community of Rock Hall, nourished by the love of her grandparents. By the time she reached school age, she had grasped concepts easily and excelled at learning. Many thought that she had a promising future.Her life began to unravel when her father moved her back to Kingston at eight years old and left her in the care of relatives when he migrated to the United States. Moving from house to house, she faced myriad instances of child abuse. Her path was far from smooth. At fifteen, Jennifer migrated to the United States and encountered a series of challenges that threatened her sense of self. A promise made to her grandmother became her lifeline, enabling her to rise above adversity and rediscover herself.
