Amelia had been safely tucked away at a quiet and comfortable boarding school in England. It had been her home for years. A war was raging in America. A war she knew nothing about. Her Uncle had sent for her. She was to come to his plantation at once. It was in a remote area of the south, in the heart of slave country. They raised cotton she was told.
Amelia risks a dangerous journey across the ocean to a strange and hostile country to meet with the Uncle. But he's nowhere to be found!
Why had they sent for her? Why was the uncle nowhere to be found?? And was this really her aunt? How could she get back to her school, the only home she'd ever known?
The Civil War was raging as Amelia struggles with the demands and upheavals and unending responsibilities of her new home. A home that she didn't want and one that she wasn't sure she would survive.
