Beskrivelse
Set in Bassett, Virginia, 1920s-1930s, home of Bassett Furniture Industries that became known as the largest manufacturer of wood furniture in the world, Avis Turner's second book tells about life in the small town with two movie theaters, a hotel, and much more. It was a place where entrepreneurs operated boarding houses, raised and sold chickens, and sold grocery with home delivery. Past times included pitching horseshoes, playing card games, going to the show, movies, planting flowers or just sitting on the steps with a glass of fresh squeezed lemonade. Avis tells the story of her hometown using her mother's dairy as the basis for the book.
