It is commonly understood that an estimated 16 million lives were lost in World War I. And as devastating as this was, the influenza epidemic that swept the world in 1918 killed an estimated 50-100 million people This estimate encompassed approximately one-fifth of the entire world's population at the time. Starting slowly in the early Spring of 1918, by the Fall it had killed more people than any other illness in recorded history. Most books or articles on the topic focus on the illness and its effects in places far from Morris County. This book and research would correct this omission and memorialize the persons in Morris County who suffered and struggled in the wake of this deadly virus.
