Beskrivelse
Deep within the Mojave Desert, along sandy washes, at the edge of mountain passes and lost bajadas, are some of the most interesting historic and geological sites in California. Ecologically and environmentally diverse, the Mojave encompasses a dramatic and enchanting landscape of ancient volcanic cinder cones, Joshua tree forests, sand dunes and rugged mountains. Weather in the Mojave changes as dramatically as its terrain: triple digits from late spring to early fall with winter temps often dropping below freezing. A wet winter, with both rain and snow, will prepare the Mojave for a spectacular display of spring flowers. Third generation Las Vegan, Florine Lawlor, was the granddaughter of a Union Pacific railroad man who arrived in Las Vegas in 1903 when it was no more than a spring and lush meadows. Her father mined gold at Delamar, among other sites. For almost sixty years, Florine guided students, politicians, historical researchers and scientists into the remote regions of the Mojave Desert.
