Beskrivelse

This magazine is published twice a year by The Midhurst Society.  It includes articles of historical interest, details of public talks, and occasional book reviews, poems, and quizzes. Primarily, it presents updates on news items that affect the lives of the people of Midhurst and surrounding area.  The Society is active in projects and campaigns that will help make Midhurst a better place to live, work and enjoy.  This issue commemorates the 60th anniversary of the Society, and for the first time ever it runs to 60 pages. The main theme is change over the last 60 years, but there are also articles covering what is current in Midhurst today. Some of the subjects covered: electric cars, stoolball, the Midhurst Yarn-Bombers, ICI in Fernhurst, and The Crown Hotel in Edinburgh Square (with previously unpublished photos). Neil Dallyn talks about the farming life and committee member Michael de Jong-Smith tells his remarkable story  Pieces by regular contributors include a look at shopping in Midhurst (Bridget Howard) and a walk in Kingley Vale (Richard Williamson). An alternative look at the yews of Kingley Vale is provided in an unusual poem by Sue Tordoff.   Plus a brief look at some of the recent projects, campaigns and planning issues that The Midhurst Society has been involved with. Lots of photos, including some fascinating aerial views taken by Reg Symonds in 1986.
