Metropole 3: Bilden / Metropolis 3: Education

A new type of learning is called for in the transition from an industrial to a knowledge society. Urban space and the architecture of educational facilities can provide inviting, encouraging and inspiring spaces for that. The Internationale Bauausstellung (International Building Exhibition) IBA Hamburg focused on those correlations within the context of its COSMOPOLIS key theme. Volume 3 of the series "METROPOLIS" questions the new knowledge society city, postulates on the necessity for a new educational architecture and puts examples of reformative intervention up for debate.
