Melody and Lyrics in Working Memory

We sometimes find ourselves singing along with a familiar song. It sometimes seems like it happens automatically, without conscious thought or action on our part. But is that true? Does simply hearing a melody somehow trigger recall of the associated lyrics? And if it does, what might lie behind that phenomenon? These questions are investigated here in a series of experiments designed to test the relationship of melody and lyrics in memory.
