Meeting Amalek

It's April 1863. Despair grows freely around Elodie's home in northern Virginia. Her father is away at war, fighting for the North, her Chassidic cousin refuses to give up his Old World ways, and all her mother can do is play an out-of-tune piano. When a rebel deserter saves Elodie and her cousin from a freak snowstorm, the family returns the favor by shielding him from a deserter-hunter. The storm they survive proves the side they're on is the side nobody's fighting for.
