Beskrivelse
This book is one positive response to the search for answers and workable model of education in contemporary Nigeria. It studies the philosophical and theoretical model propounded by Martin Buber on how a philosophy of education can have impact in a socially, culturally and religiously pluralistic society like Nigeria. The author begins by tracing the socio-cultural context of Nigerian nation, identifying the role of the variety of ethnic cultures on segregation policies of education in Nigeria. It is sad that such policy exist in all ethnic groups even today. By way of proferring concrete solutions, the author explores beautifully and critically the educational philosophies of Martin Buber in the following aspects of education: child training, mutuality, instinct, origination, communion, the environment, freedom, inclusion, and character development. These fundamental studies are also carefully contextualized in the Nigerian educational system in a manner that suggests solutions and charts positive paths towards redeeming and progressing the nature, course and impact of education in Nigeria.
