Marshall, the man at the center of the story, is snatched by aliens, but is it abduction or repatriation? Is he a kidnapped native of Earth or an amnesia-stricken off-world refugee being rescued? On Earth, Marshall is a database programmer and a dutiful if somewhat disconnected family man. On Kelth, a distant planet on the other side of time, he is a warrior. The hero of a hard race on a harsh planet, he's been repatriated to serve his warlord king in a desperate struggle to preserve the royal lineage. His struggle becomes a race against time as Marshall's identity and sanity crumbles on both worlds.
