A social and historical tale depicting life in the British Merchant Navy of the 1950s. It chronicles the growth of a youth from a naive 16-year old to a mature man - capable eventually of accepting the responsibilities entrusted to a watch-keeping officer on the bridge of an ocean-going ship.
