Marianela

Marianela tells the story of love between a poor and homely girl and Pablo, a man who was born blind. The story takes place in Socartes, a small village, and Aldeacorba, where Pable lives with his father don Francisco Pen?guilas. The Pen?guilas family enjoy their growing wealth, and Pablo is happy passing the time with Nela his guide. Nela is a poor orphan who lives with the family of Centeno, the foreman of the local mines. She is mistreated and only feels happy when she is accompanying Pablo. They feel a profound love, and Pablo promises to marry her. Pablo believes that Marianela is a woman of extraordinary beauty. However, don Teodoro Golf?n, a famous opthalmologist, has been called to Socartes in order to cure Pablo.
