Beskrivelse

In this short read of historical fiction, Michael Reppas, Esq shares a story based on the real events of the Turkish occupation of Greece showing how the enslaved people stood up to their oppressors to fight to save their history and their identities. In his previous book "Why Don't We Just Sue The British Museum?: A Litigator's Perspective On The Parthenon Marbles Debate" (also available on Kindle), Michael created a mock trial for the reader to decide the fate of the looted Parthenon Sculptures, now he tells a spellbinding story about a family who lived through the actual taking and who fought, and died, to stop the pillage. All the while making you feel as though you were a part of their tragic story.

In his own words Michael dedicates the book as follows:

"To him who created the myth that Lord Elgin was a savior and to all those who perpetuate that myth, I add this, heretofore untold story into the collective pool of historical accounts of the pillage of the Parthenon. I add it as a counterpoint to the tales of the heroic journeys of the brave and noble Lord Elgin that have been spun for far too long, and as a tribute to all those real heroes who died fighting for their freedom from oppression. What the Greeks have endured at the hands of the Turks and the British is not a myth and neither should be the honorable decision of the British Parliament to right this historical wrong and to return, unconditionally, the Parthenon Sculptures to Greece"

Invariably, you will find yourself entrenched in this drama. The pain, suffering, sacrifice and sad nobility of the characters will inspire you rethink what should happen to the looted property of an enslaved people after they secure their freedom. Should it be returned or should it forever stay in the trophy cases of the museum of the foreign country that looted the people all those years ago when they were slaves and unable to protect their historical treasures?
