Local Government

Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. Since the first edition of this book appeared in 1899, several important statutes have been passed which affect Local Government in England and Wales. Chief among these are the London Government Act, 1899, and the Education Act of 1902. It was therefore necessary, in preparing the present edition, to entirely rewrite the chapter on the Education Authority, and to make considerable additions, especially to the chapter on the Metropolis. The rest of the book has been thoroughly revised and brought up to date.
