This volume showcases the work of the photographers who contributed to "Life" magazine and who have managed to grasp between them the expressive range of the human face. The pictures gathered together in this volumes are from more than half a million portraits that have appeared in the magazine since 1936. The photographers include Yousuf Karsh, Eve Arnold and Henri Cartier-Bresson. Alongside the photographs is a commentry that seeks to offer the reader an insider's account with anecdotes by John Loengard, the former picture editor of the magazine.
