Lewis and Clark Expedition Unit Study

This Unit Study replaces the original one - in a larger size, with two extra activities: The "Corps of Discovery" went places no white men had ever been, encountered countless Indian tribes that Easterners had only heard rumors about, and "discovered" plants and animals never before dreamed of by Americans or Europeans. It was a military Expedition, with much of the usual military protocol and discipline. But it was also very unusual for a military Expedition - there were two commanders instead of one. And they were accompanied by many civilians along the way - including one slave, various Frenchmen, occasional Indian scouts, and an Indian woman and her newborn son. Whether you are teaching one student or thirty students, this Unit Study will help you and your student(s) gain a greater grasp of the important Lewis and Clark Expedition. Follow the Corps of Discovery on their two and half year journey through the aid of a Time-line Game, Board Game, Lapbook, a fiction book (A Brief History of the Lewis and Clark Expedition), and a non-fiction book from the perspective of the Expedition's Forgotten Member, York (York Proceeded On).
