A historical novel of French women ambulance drivers serving in the forward areas of the battleground when the French 3rd Algerian Infantry Division assaulted Belvedere Ridge during the first bitter battle of Cassino north of Naples in January-February 1944 when Allied armies tried to break the German defensive line and advance towards Rome. During fierce fighting, the French took and held their objectives, the only Allied force to do so. This is a story of young women holding together during arduous dangers.
