English summary: That women in East Germany enjoyed more equality than their counterparts in West Germany is a long-standing and widely-disseminated view about the German Democratic Republic (the DDR). It was chiefly the professional success enjoyed by East German women in the 1990s, which supported the argument that they had allegedly experienced considerable gains in the 1970s and 1980s, especially gains that promoted self-confidence and independence. Using selected documentary literature and everyday sources, as well as their receptions, the goal of this book is to analyze the contemporary and analogous interpretative logics of this "explanation," with the result that this study deals with not only representations specific to the DDR but also those generated in the old Federal Republic as well, and the two sets of representations are therefore compared to each other. Finally, this work examines the West German licensed edition of Maxi Wander's "Good Morning, My Darling," (Guten Morgen, du Schone, 1973), which was quite prominent in regards to understanding the creation of the legend of equality in every instance: here was a text from the DDR that was engineered to interface with the convictions of western feminism. German description: Ostdeutsche Frauen seien gleichberechtigter gewesen als westdeutsche, lautet eine bis heute weit verbreitete Auffassung uber die DDR. Wurden in den 1990er Jahren vor allem die beruflichen Erfolge der Frauen herausgestellt, sind es in den 1970er und 1980er Jahren ihre vermeintlichen emanzipatorischen Zugewinne: Selbstbewusstsein und Eigenstandigkeit. Anhand ausgesuchter Werke der Protokoll- und Alltagsliteratur sowie deren Rezeptionen werden zeithistorisch analog Interpretationslogiken dieser 'Erzahlungen' analysiert - mit dem Ergebnis, dass es sich hierbei sowohl um DDR-spezifische als auch in der alten Bundesrepublik generierte Darstellungen handelt, die daruber hinaus miteinander verflochten sind. Letztlich wird die westdeutsche Lizenzausgabe von Maxi Wanders 'Guten Morgen, du Schone' (1973) in punkto Legendenbildung in jeglicher Hinsicht herausragen: Hier wurde ein Text aus der DDR in Richtung Anschlussfahigkeit an die Uberzeugungen des westlichen Feminismus manipuliert.
