Beskrivelse
For over five decades, Lee Kelly has been widely recognized as one of the Pacific Northwest's pre-eminent sculptors, an acclaim founded on extensive bodies of work in both stainless steel and Cor-ten steel, often at monumental scale. In 2013, Lee Kelly created a significant body of new work, a series of nine paintings exhibited at the Elizabeth Leach Gallery in Portland, Oregon, as part of Kelly's exhibition called "Pavilions." This series, entitled "One through Nine," are oil on canvas paintings, a medium the artist had largely abandoned in 1963. However, these new paintings do not represent a return to Kelly's Abstract Expressionist past. Remarkably these pieces emerged from his sculptural work of the last ten to 15 years. "Lee Kelly: One through Nine" includes full color images of the recent paintings and selections from Lee Kelly's recent sculptural work. The book was edited and designed by Randal Davis, who also contributed the essay ..".and how things are put together...." Introduction to "One through Nine" is by Kassandra Kelly.
