Beskrivelse
This is a remarkable and true story about the author's son, Tom, who at twenty-seven months was diagnosed with severe autism. It is a story of hope for the families with children newly diagnosed with autism, and encouragement for those who are a few years, or maybe many years, into intensive educational and therapeutic programming. With tools and techniques for early intervention, it is a story of affirmation for (and an expression of gratitude to) all families.
Dr. Jekanowski, a respected educator and committed parent, shares her son's journey chronologically along with actual home program session notes, evaluation data, classwork, artwork, photos, and awards. Each chapter concludes with "Tom's Thoughts" about the material, his memories and thoughts of that time. She includes a brief reflective guide at the end of every chapter. These guides highlight topics in each chapter and are intended for parents, educators, therapists, community members, and policy makers, i.e., anyone who knows, loves, and/or works on behalf of children and young adults with autism.
