Beskrivelse

"Lands of the Suspended Sun" follows Carolyn Wedin during three different decades when she taught American and English Literature and Culture in two universities in Sweden, the University of G teborg, or Gothenburg in 1985-196, and Lund University in 2000-2001, as well as serving as the Fulbright "Roving Scholar" in Norway in 1996-1997. Living in Scandinavia with her family in all seasons and at different times, she observed much about how these countries were handling questions of refugees, the environment, health care, social safety nets, education. She came to think of them as possible models for other nations. In fall and spring, the sun seems to hang in the sky morning and evening in Norway and Sweden. This leads to the title of the book--is the sun rising or setting? Are these countries solving modern problems in increasingly positive ways or have they passed their zeniths as potential leaders in the world?
