Beskrivelse
Land of Canaan is a collection of short vignettes recounting the experience of a suburban family that moved to the country in the late 1950's. The head of the family, Dr. Heimat, acquiesced to his wife's desire to move to a farm. He is soon embroiled with the wily folk of rural eastern Kansas as well as his children, some of whom cannot wait to begin feeding chickens and ducks and larger farm animals. The eccentricities of the Heimat neighbors and some of the visitors to the farm are portrayed. The beautiful grass and woodlands eventually vanish along with the unique country folk to be replaced by two- and three-story homes on tree-lined avenues. It is illustrated throughout with ink wash drawings.
