This critical edition of Vicenzo Bellini s "La""sonnambula" aims to present the opera as Bellini originally intended it, removing the large number of key transpositions imposed in later editions and returning the score to its original and very personal sound-texture and dramatic structure. It also restores certain moments that, due to their difficulty, were probably omitted even in the earliest years, but which Bellini nonetheless certainly considered to be an integral part of the score. This edition gives modern performers and fans their first chance to fully understand the musical vision underlying "La somnambula.""
