In 1640, Charles Sorel published the only narrative fiction bearing his name, La Solitude et l'amour philosophique de Cleomede. This work is simultaneously a partly allegorical novel of philosophical initiation, a more or less admittedly genealogical story, and a treatise on practical morality that contains its share of poetry.
