Alvin Plantinga's Reformed Epistemology is one of the most influential contemporary contributions to an epistemology of Christian belief. Plantinga has developed his religious epistemology in three stages: Until ca. 1974/75 he tried to defend the claim that theistic beliefs are rationally justified. From 1974/75 to 1987 he claimed that basic theistic beliefs are rationally justified. Since 1987 he has developed an externalist epistemological approach and proposed the so called Aquinas/Calvin model. In this model basic Christian beliefs are knowledge. Ralf-Thomas Klein evaluates successively the claims of the three stages, in particular the claim that Christian faith is knowledge. His conclusion is that Plantinga's position can be defended, but that it is desirable to develop his epistemic model further. He therefore proposes a revised model. Germam text.
