Dr. Torres grew up part of a strict Roman Catholic family in 1960's Spain. As was typical at the time, family dysfunction was papered over wit heavy denial. On the outside, his family exuded a radical normalcy, hinting even at success. Underneath lurked a complicated tapestry of accumulated eccentricities and shared fears.
As a child, Dr. Torres internalized his mother's anxieties and insecurities. By the age of seven, he became a chronic worrier. From a young age, this intense and sustained worry led to the onset of his own anxiety disorder. His condition progressively aggravated until he rushed himself to the emergency room. After consulting numerous specialists and finding no relief, Dr. Torres decided to diagnose and treat himself.
In this book, Dr. Torres describes in vivid detail his struggles an his efforts to regain his sanity and a positive outlook on life. In documenting the journey, he hopes to humanize and shed light on a condition that too often goes unrecognized and untreated.
