As the sun begins to shine less each day, the howling of animals announces the arrival of our issue 3 of "Katabasis: A Journal of Hekatean Devotion & Scholarship" as Hekate Therobromos, She who commands and drives the feral heart. Frightening sounds, smells of filth and sight-seeing through hellish landscape are not gentle as Hekate guides Her devotees through the hardest parts of being human in this world right now. The snake, the horse, the lion, the dog...and the unseen virus has forced us to see true reflections and confront the ugliness of society.
In this issue we share insights from familiar voices and welcome new visions from Hekatean practitioners. Our occultic bard Harper Feist brings forth terrifying imagery of Hekatean dread with her poem "T¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿S (Heralded By Monsters)", and oracular prose is revealed by Hekate Herself through poetess Christine Berger in "Queen of Darkness". Ancient PGM magick is adapted and utilized for Covid by Inara Cauldwell in "Papyri in Pandemic Times" and copy-editor, witch extraordinaire Lucera A.F. shares a deeply spiritual and personal experience of Hekate as "filth-eater" in "The Affliction, The Fury and The Filth". Artists in this issue include evocative photography by S.A. Bradley, mixed media madness by Harper Feist, magickal imagery from the highly talented Roy G. Biven, and breath-taking cover art by Poquis...all must be seen with naked eyes to be believed.
Katabasis: A Journal of Hekatean Devotion and Scholarship is an inclusive tri-annual publication, releasing at the most liminal times of the magickal year. A labour of love, a devotional work in the vein of academic scholarship and continued experiential relationship with the titaness, Hekate defines this journal. Magick, personal development and connection to the full retinue of spirits and deities which embody the Hekatean current are included as well. May this body of work be an inspirational tool for others who are committed to furthering research, sharing experiences and honouring the influence of Hekate in our modern lives.
