What was his fate and that of his twin brother who joins the American army and narrates the story? Laced with thought-provoking interpretations and commentaries, the novel draws heavily on historical events, accounts of Germans who experienced the war firsthand and archival information provided by the cities of Berlin, Hamburg and Kiel and the National Archives of the United States.
