This biography encompasses the life and career of an Australian physician who at 36 years of age sought to succeed in the competitive world of Academic Medicine in America. We learn about the challenges he has faced along the way from being a young medical student who failed his first year of Medicine in the 1950s to his building a large Department of Medicine at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center in the chaotic times of the 1990s. In describing his now over 50 year experience in Medicine, the remarkable changes that have occurred along with the challenges remaining are well portrayed.Dr. Strickland describes his life and personal development and that of his family over a 70 year period.
