Joanne Mireles, a young girl, rescues a brown rabbit one day home from school. Convincing her parents to keep her, she names her Piper, and he becomes the light in her world. The two of them are always together, sharing adventures that she shares with no one at all, and with her vet father and mother, she completes her family. However, good things all once come to an end, as one day she lost control of her bike and crashed into the snow. Will this newly enlightened family continue on the same path of happiness that there was, or will this one simple tragic incident tear them apart? And what is so special about Piper that no matter where she goes, happiness follows?
