Beskrivelse
This volume presents a critical edition of AMA 103, complete with English translation and a commentary (both in English and in Arabic). In the absence of other data, the manuscript is the unique translation of a lost homily written in 1727 by the Orthodox monk Kyr Yakubus and translated by Elias Fakhr al-Tarabulsi in 1728. There are many interesting elements in this small manuscript, such as the organization chosen by the author and the fact that the translator is well versed in Arabic, as is evident in his use of wonderful Arabic words with ample and manifold meanings, which usage brings clarity and richness of meaning to the text. However, what is more interesting is that, in spite of the fact that Kyr Yakubus had been involved in controversy against the Catholic Church, his homily makes crystal clear the unity of the faith of both Churches with regard to the single most important foundation of Christian belief, namely, the identity of Jesus. This book is intended for the general reader (both Arabic and English readers), for students of ecumenical dialogue among the Christian Churches, and for the researcher and the scholar interested in the Arab-Christian Heritage.
