Jesus Christus bildet die Mitte des christlichen Glaubens, weshalb die Theologie als Ganze durch die Christologie bestimmt ist und von ihr her entfaltet werden kann. Das Bekenntnis der göttlichen Würde Christi war für die Alte Kirche und auch für Martin Luther von alles entscheidender Bedeutung. Das Buch zielt nicht zuletzt auf den Nachweis, dass dieses Bekenntnis seinen Grund im Christuszeugnis des Neuen Testaments hat und es keineswegs verzeichnet.

Die in dem Band vereinigten Studien sind zentralen Fragen und Themen des Glaubens gewidmet und verbinden eine wissenschaftlich begründete Schriftauslegung mit dem Bemühen um eine theologisch reflektierte Verantwortung des Wahrheitsanspruchs des Evangeliums. Sie wollen das Gespräch zwischen Exegese und Systematischer Theologie fördern und zugleich für die kirchliche Verkündigung relevant und hilfreich sein.

Jesus Christ is at the center of Christian faith. Therefore, theology as a whole is determined by christology and can be unfolded from this starting point. For the Old Church, as well as for Martin Luther, the confession of the Divine dignity of Christ was of all-dominant importance. One of the aims of this book is to prove that this confession is based on the testimony of Christ in the New Testament and is not distorting the latter in any way.

The studies compiled in this book are dealing with central questions and topics of Faith. They combine scholarly Bible interpretation with an effort to theologically reflect and argue for the Gospel's claim to truth. They want to stimulate the dialogue between exegetics and systematic theology, and at the same time be relevant and helpful to churchly proclamation.
