The first 4 stories in the B series are published here in one volume. These are, a man, a bat, a bad dog, a bug in a cup.

Sixteen letters of the alphabet are introduced gradually in simple words to reinforce those in Starter Book A. These are a, b, c, d, e, g, h, i, m, n, o, p, s, t, u, x'. The letter 'e' is used only in the word 'the'. The first letters introduced are 'a, c, h, m, n, o, t'. These are followed by 'b, i, d, x', then 'g, s' and, lastly, 'u, p, e'.

The words and pictures are closely aligned to ensure that children understand the words when they read them.

The text is made up of single words and phrases, so that punctuation is unnecessary.

The CVC words are joined by the connecting words 'a, on, in, and, the'.

The only 'high-frequency tricky word' used is 'the' in the last text.

This book is written for children reading at the pink book-band level and usually 4-5 years old. It may also be useful for older children who find learning to read difficult.
