By exploring the thinking that underlies capitalistic political economy, this critical inquiry presents a dialogue between Adam Smith and a questioner that helps the reader understand the foundational beliefs upon which our economic system rests and from which our sense of order in business, society and life emerges. In this book we not only challenge the validity of these beliefs but we share a vision of how it could be different if what we know today about the human condition and living systems were applied in re-creating it. Since economic theory and practice touch much of life in society, the content of this book has far reaching implications. The time for this dialogue could not be better as we face unimaginable challenges largely as a result of unfettered self-interested behavior.
